BREAKING NEWS: TMC Technologies Launches SmallSat Digital Twin (SSDT)® AI Assistant
SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH — TMC Technologies, a leading small business innovator in advanced technology solutions, is proud to announce the launch of the SmallSat Digital Twin (SSDT)® AI Assistant, a conversational capability that helps mission teams get started faster with a ready-to-run SmallSat digital twin that includes flight software, dynamics, and multiple ground software systems.
The AI assistant streamlines onboarding, shortens simulation setup cycles, and reduces early program risk by turning complex guidance into clear, actionable steps. TMC Technologies Chief Engineer Dr. Scott Zemerick will demonstrate the revolutionary innovation during his presentation at the 39th Annual Small Satellite Conference in the Salt Palace Convention Center, 100 S West Temple, Salt Lake City, Utah. The presentation will take place on Wednesday, August 13, at 3:30 p.m. MDT in Meeting Room 155 B, titled "Accelerate SmallSat Development with NASA Operational Simulator for Small Satellites (NOS3) and the TMC Technologies FlexSat®."
Built upon NASA Operational Simulator for Small Satellites (NOS3), an open-source software environment created at NASA's Katherine Johnson Independent Verification and Validation (IV&V) Program in Fairmont, West Virginia, the Assistant operationalizes best practices in a simple questionand-answer experience with code generation when requested.
"SmallSat teams need speed with rigor," TMC Technologies Chief Engineer, Dr. Scott Zemerick said. "The TMC SmallSat Digital Twin (SSDT)® AI Assistant operationalizes proven workflows so engineers move from questions to validated steps and source code in minutes. It is a pragmatic AI that focuses on modeling and simulation for mission assurance."
What It Delivers
Context aware answers in plain language. The Assistant aligns with how teams build, test, and operate simulated spacecraft using SSDT and NOS3.
Step-by-step runbooks for common tasks. Teams get guided help for environment setup, scenario configuration, test execution, and troubleshooting, with references to authoritative NOS3 resources.
Faster onboarding and fewer handoffs. New engineers ramp up quickly by following established NOS3 patterns grounded in open-source documentation and repositories.
"This is a force multiplier for the SmallSat ecosystem," said Denise Lindsey, Vice President of Commercial and Federal Civilian Programs. "It reduces the document hunt and keeps teams focused on building, testing, and learning."
Why It Matters
The SSDT continues to serve the SmallSat community as an open-source digital twin that reduces cost and cycle time for software development, integration and test, and operations and training. Packaging that knowledge into a conversational assistant helps programs compress time to first simulation, improve handover quality, and increase repeatability across missions. "We are aligning velocity with discipline," said Jeff Edgell, Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President.
Wade Linger, President and CEO, added, "Our customers expect execution with precision. The SmallSat Digital Twin (SSDT)® AI Assistant supports that mandate by turning best practices into daily habits."
Availability and Access
The SmallSat Digital Twin (SSDT)® AI Assistant is open access for government, commercial, and academic SmallSat teams that leverage NOS3 for software development, integration, testing, and training.
